On 12 August 2023, Bellingham made his competitive debut for Real and marked it with a goal, scoring with a close-range volley from a corner kick in a 2–0 away win over Athletic Bilbao. In his third game, he continued his goal-scoring form, heading in a late winner against Celta Vigo to help Los Blancos continue their perfect league start with a 1–0 away win. Registering four goals and one assist in his first three league matches, Bellingham was named La Liga's Player of the Month in August, becoming the first Englishman to win the award.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the game, Bellingham stated that when he scored it was "the loudest moment" he had ever heard in a stadium, adding that when the supporters were singing "Hey Jude" at the end, he "got goosebumps".
